We provide services in both the community and at Merakey locations, offering treatment and support that focuses on resiliency. Programs Offered

Autism and Education Centers

Merakey Autism and Education Centers partner with families, school districts, and community organizations to provide a safe and fun learning environment. We help students gain the skills they need to be successful in their home school district, on the job, and at home.

Outpatient Therapy and Psychiatry

Children and adolescents under the age of 21 who are experiencing behavioral health challenges can receive specialized services at a Merakey clinic.

Diversion Programs and After School Services

The Merakey Center for Hope is a youth drop-in center for young people ages 11-21 who live in the city of Newburgh, NY. This program is available after school and offers many workshops, including ceramics, music, dance, photography, creative writing, and more.

Family Based Mental Health Services (FBMH)

Merakey’s Family Based Mental Health (FBMH) program is for children and adolescents who are at risk of being hospitalized or referred to an out-of-home placement because of mental health issues or family challenges. A team provides in-home therapy for both the family and the young person.

Community and School Based Behavioral Health

Our Community and School Based Behavioral Health services include 1:1 and family counseling, training for students and families on how to change negative behaviors into positive behaviors, and tools for dealing with crises.

Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS)

Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) support children, adolescents, and young adults with mental, emotional, and behavioral health needs. IBHS offers a variety of services in homes, schools, and communities.

Transition Services

Merakey Gateway Transition Services feature a Group Skills program, Independence Coaching programs, and Summer Group Skills programs that help young adults with autism develop fundamental social, pre-vocational, and life skills needed to live, work, and thrive in the community. Student Assistance Program (SAP)

The School Assistance Program (SAP) is a school-based program that supports students with mental health challenges. Services include an initial evaluation, support groups, individual and group counseling, and help with crises.

ABA and Specialized Therapies

ABA is an important part of all of Merakey’s autism programs. Trained ABAs help individuals improve basic skills like looking, listening, and imitating, and more complex skills like reading, conversing, and understanding another person’s perspective.

In-District Specialized Classrooms

Merakey’s In-District Specialized Classrooms provide special programming and support for students with autism and cognitive and emotional challenges within their home school environment.

TIP Model

Merakey is a provider trained on the TIP Model® designed to help Cambria County youth and young persons, ages 16 - 26 with serious emotional/behavioral challenges identify and achieve their desired goals.

Healthy Families America® (HFA)

Healthy Families America® (HFA) is a national, evidence-based home visiting program that focuses on enhancing child welfare, health, and development. HFA uses a relationship focused approach and promotes positive parenting skills, parent-child attachment, and enhanced family self-sufficiency to ultimately create safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments.

Family Finding

Family Finding establishes a lifetime network of support for children who are disconnected from their home and community through out-of-home placement. Using the Kevin Campbell model of Family Finding, case managers find at least 40 family members and supportive connections and work to gain their commitment to support the youth through concrete actions.

Functional Family Therapy (FFT)

Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is an evidence-based program for youth, ages 11 to 18, and their families who are involved with multiple systems and at-risk for out-of-home placement. A therapist works with the family in the community for 4-6 months to improve family functioning and decrease family conflict.

Family Group Decision Making (FGDM)

Family Group Decision Making (FGDM) invites members of the family group to engage in critical decisions on the safety and care of a child. The service moves from a mindset where professionals determine solutions to a process that actively values the family’s strengths and their ability to keep the child safe. Services are short-term lasting less than 120 days.

Delaware Case Management

In partnership with the Delaware Division of Family Services, Merakey provides case management to families who have a substantiated child abuse and neglect case. The program partners with families to prevent unnecessary entry into foster care through prevention planning. Case managers help families build a strong supportive network, mitigate risk, improve caregiver skills, and enhance parenting practices.

Pathways 1 Prevention

Pathways 1 Prevention is a 90-day case management program designed to assist families with stress factors that may result in a child being placed out-of-home or a higher level of care. Case managers provide support linking to concrete needs, parenting support, and behavioral health treatment.

Family Interventionist Peer

The Family Interventionist Peer is an individual with lived experience in the child welfare system who provides support to families whose children have been removed from the home to work towards reunification.

Multi-Systemic Therapy – Child Abuse and Neglect (MST-CAN)

MST-CAN is an evidence-based adaptation of Multi-Systemic Therapy which serves families with a credible report of child abuse and/or neglect. A team provides intensive, community-based interventions tailored to the family to reduce risk factors that contribute to abuse and neglect.

Early Intervention (EI)

Early Intervention (EI) provides services through coaching supports to infants/toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities, and their caregivers, so that they may help their children grow and develop. EI coaching supports are evidence-based and individualized for the child and his or her family, recognizing young children learn best through everyday experiences and interactions with nurturing people in familiar contexts. During coaching, meaningful and functional outcomes are embedded within familiar learning opportunities that exist in the child’s typical routines, within the home and community activities or ECE programs.

Family Assessment and Intervention Response (FAIR)

An alternative response to traditional child welfare investigations, FAIR assesses whether children are safe in their home. Assessment focuses on solving problems and building on a family’s strengths rather than placing blame.
