During the month of November, we celebrate Native American Heritage Month as a time to honor diverse cultures, traditions, and to acknowledge the important contributions of the Native People. The totem pole is likely one of the most recognizable cultural symbols of the Native Americans. The staff and students at Merakey Education and Autism School in Harrisburg created a totem pole of their own. Just like many totem poles of the Native Americans, the 840 Champions Totem Pole includes the traditionally used colors along with crest animals. Each color and crest animal used visually represents the characteristics, values, and goals of the 840 Champions Tribe. Everyone enjoyed learning about the Native American culture through this fun and educational activity!
