Please join the Children and Family Services Division in congratulating their new Children’s Medical Director, Dr. Ayesha Waheed. In this expanded role, Dr. Waheed will work with Merakey’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Murray and Children and Family Services leadership to develop clinical best practice guidelines and to spearhead quality improvement and consumer safety initiatives. Dr. Waheed will continue to work at the children’s outpatient clinic located at 265 E. Lehigh Avenue in Philadelphia, supporting their behavioral health efforts in that community.
Dr. Waheed has been part of the Merakey family since 2006. She is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Temple University and Drexel University. She is Board certified in Adult Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Community and Public Psychiatry. She received her medical education at King Edward Medical College, Pakistan, pursued Adult Psychiatry Residency at Penn State College of Medicine, followed by Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Drexel University College of Medicine. She successfully led the 13-year-long collaboration between Merakey and Drexel University in her role as Program Director for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Drexel University and Site Director at Merakey’s 265 E. Lehigh Avenue clinic. In 2020, she assumed the role of Associate Medical Director of Children’s Services and also began leading the academic affiliation between Merakey and Temple University’s Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Waheed has authored 18 publications in the field of Psychiatry and is the recipient of 9 academic awards for her excellence in the domains of teaching, education, clinical scholarship, and administrative acumen.
