This past Tuesday, March 1 may have been a typical day for much of the world, but in Louisiana, it was Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday! At the Autism Center in Baton Rouge, the consumers decorated Mardi Gras floats, masks, and hats with the help of their incredible Behavior Technicians Melanie Johnson, Chermeka Bullard and Roderick Gilmore. Derrick and Oscar had a blast celebrating this annual event.
Did you know? Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, refers to events of the Carnival celebration, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany (Three Kings Day) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday, which is also known as Shrove Tuesday. Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday," reflecting the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual Lenten sacrifices and fasting of the Lenten season. New Orleans Mardi Gras celebrations draw hundreds of thousands of tourists to attend famed parties and parades.
