WE'RE HIRING!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around the Slippery Rock Program Center. Individuals and staff participated in a door decorating contest by decorating the doors of administrative staff. The extra sparkly reindeer door belonging to Program Director Tim Geibel was the clear winner!

Santa Claus (aka: Program Specialist Andrew Mikucki) and his trusty elf made a surprise visit to SRPC to deliver a few gifts this week. Excitement broke out as soon as everyone heard the magical jingling of sleigh bells. Santa spent some time visiting before he had to return to the North Pole to ensure everything was ready for Christmas.

Santa's Surprise Visit at SRPC

The festivities at SRPC continued a second day, when the Grinch tried to steal Christmas! But, with a little help from his trusty elf, Santa Claus saved the day and the holidays for the residents and staff! Everyone cheered when they saw the naughty Grinch banished from SRPC.

Bradford, Gary, Ilene, and Megan from Merakey AVS along with The Friendship Circle of Pittsburgh and The Branch participated in a virtual Hanukkah celebration this week. Friends shared what they enjoy about Hanukkah, watched a video about the holiday and shared the message to increase the light in the world. They also played a dreidel game and Hanukkah Bingo – congratulations to Megan, who was the grand prize winner!

Tony, a popular resident among the Merakey AVS family, took the initiative to prepare and present about Kwanzaa to the residents and staff at the Zapp Center. He borrowed items from a display at the Center and brought a few others from home to help share the story of Kwanzaa. With help from his Program Instructor Renee, the items were placed in a specific order. Using his Dynavox, assistive technology that helps him to communicate with others, Tony explained each item and the meaning of the holiday. The ear-to-ear smile on Tony’s face is clear proof that he thoroughly enjoyed and took pride in giving this special presentation on the history behind Kwanzaa.

The residents from Green Garden Home are proud to show off their home, and all the hard work they put into it by decorating for the holiday season. Watch the video below to enjoy a virtual tour of their home!
