Merakey USA Board Member Appointed as Interim Vice President of Communications at University of Pennsylvania

Congratulations to Merakey USA Board Member Stephen MacCarthy on his recent appointment to Interim Vice President of Communications at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia!

Stephen is very familiar with this role, since he held the position of Vice President of University Communications from 2011 to 2023. He is credited with elevating the work of the Communications team to new heights, including the creation of Penn Today. In Penn’s announcement about his appointment, Stephen is described as “an adept leader and advisor across Penn presidencies…he deeply understands the University and is warmly regarded across campus and beyond.” Stephen is also recognized for his steady, sage voice during the pandemic, producing “rock-solid” communications that reinforced the University’s mission and their efforts to protect lives. After 35 years in higher education leadership, Penn is very fortunate to benefit from Stephen’s expertise and experience once again.

Penn welcomes Stephen back on August 1, and the Merakey family wishes him well as he and his colleagues prepare for a new academic year.
