The Friends of Merakey AVS Golf Open took place on September 14 at Chartiers Country Club, bringing together 112 golfers, volunteers, special guests, and supporters for a memorable day on the course. This year’s event honored the Pittsburgh Steelers as the 2026 AVS Champion, recognizing the team’s many years of support and dedication to the individuals at Merakey AVS. Among the special Steelers guests were mascot Steely McBeam, former player Chris Hoak, broadcaster Bill Hillgrove, and many other friends.
The Pittsburgh Campus choir helped kick off the day with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem before golfers headed out onto the course. Guests were welcomed by Elizabeth Cope, Board Member Dorothy Pollon, WTAE Newscaster Andrew Stockey, and other supporters. Golfers also enjoyed a variety of fun contests and activities throughout the day, including a new Steelers-themed PLINKO game hosted by individuals from Merakey AVS’s Edward J. Zapp Center, as well as delicious custom-flavored ice cream from Cookie Cookie Ice Cream. It was a fantastic day filled with fun, community, and support for the individuals served by Merakey AVS.
