Keith from Merakey AVS Central Waiver Program took a fun day trip to Wendy’s. The manager spent some time with him and even taught him how to operate the soda machine. Keith hung out by the entrance and greeted people as they came into the restaurant. And, of course he got a lot of “prizes.” He had a blast!
The individuals in the IDD program in Lehigh County, PA enjoyed an arc dance on September 16. Everyone enjoyed the music and getting to dance together.
The staff from Windy Ghoul home at Merakey AVS made special shirts in honor of Direct Support Professionals week.
Happy Birthday, Patty! On September 12, the individuals and staff at Merakey AVS on Verree Road in Philadelphia celebrated Patty’s 60th birthday. The theme of the party was horses – per Patty’s request – and the birthday lady dressed up like a cowgirl with a hat, dress, and birthday sash. In addition, the front patio was decorated to resemble a western horse farm that would bring any dude ranch to shame. Like every other party at the Verree Road location, there were countless fun activities, including dancing, singing, arts and crafts, and birthday games. The party ended with a loud and joyous happy birthday song.
Kimmy, Tommy, and Bradford from Merakey AVS Evergreen home took advantage of the beautiful weather by spending an afternoon at Fairhaven Park. Kimmy enjoyed going for a walk and tossing the volleyball back and forth, while Tommy sat on the bench swing by the pavilion and seemed very relaxed. Bradford tried out the swing but was more interested in tossing the volleyball and people watching. It was a great day!
Individuals at Edward J. Zapp Center celebrated National Dog Day by learning about all the different types of working dogs such as police dogs, guide dogs, emotional support dogs, and search and rescue dogs. They also made a dog craft, selecting their own yarn, pop poms, and which dog they wanted to create.
Eugene from Merakey AVS Central Waiver enjoyed a day out at Middlecreek Wildlife Preserve.
