On August 15, Merakey individual Gary from Phoenixville in Chester County, PA and his brother Lee from Broomall in Delaware County enjoyed a night out at Citizens Bank Park for a Philadelphia Phillies game. The brothers are diehard Phillies fans and were very excited to attend a game together. Gary cheered for his favorite player Bryce Harper each time he came up to bat. "Come on Harper don't let me down," he shouted. The Fightin' Phils beat the Washington Nationals 13 to 3. Special thanks to Family Support Professional Theresa Sanchez and Program Specialist Wolf Richard for coordinating this special event.

From August 10 – 14, Julie from Swarthmore in Delaware County, PA enjoyed her summer vacation down the Jersey shore and chose to stay at the Showboat Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. Julie visited the Island Waterpark where her favorite water activity was relaxing on the lazy river. She enjoyed relaxing and strolling in the surf on the beach. A fan of shopping, Julie picked out many new clothes along the Atlantic City Boardwalk. She enjoyed good eats and the arcade at the resort and around town. Julie can't wait to go back to the shore soon. Special thanks to House Manager Vanessa Jeffcoat for organizing the trip and accompanying Julie.

Vacation at Jersey Shore (AUgust 2024)


Slippery Rock Program Instructor Cindy Solman and her Aide Kylie Miller took their area to the Linesville Spillway. The group stopped at the small museum to learn about the life cycle of the carp that reside in the water. Afterward, they enjoyed the sunny weather while they fed the fish and ducks. Everyone enjoyed having a picnic on site. It was a great day to be out and about.

From August 4 - 6, Dougie and Leslie from Wallingford in Delaware County, PA vacationed at the Kalahari Resort in the Pocono Mountains. They enjoyed visiting the water park, eating many of the great foods, and the Big Game Room arcade. Special thanks to Aminata and Jessie for coordinating this fun outing and accompanying the guys on their summer vacation.

On August 23, Merakey Greenbrier home in Newtown Square, Delaware County hosted a backyard barbeque for all IDD programs across Delaware and Chester Counties. Once again, DSP Kieth Trotman was the grill master throughout the afternoon and evening. There were burgers, chicken, macaroni and cheese, fried rice, fruit salad and more. Program Specialist Wolf Richard took the helm at the DJ station offering up tunes for everyone and hosted a dance off. There were competitive games, including cornhole, between employees and others. The day was filled with smiles, laughter, and fun for everyone. Special thanks to Wolf, Keith, Vanessa, Ashley, Beatrice, and Tiana for bringing everyone together.

Backyard Barbeque (August 2024)


On August 20, the IDD programs in the Northeast and Central PA regions under Executive Director Michelle Gibson celebrated their third annual picnic at Koebel’s Amusement Park in Elysburg, PA. Individuals and staff members were given a meal, ride tickets, and a t-shirt. Each center donated 3-4 raffle items for everyone to participate in and win fantastic prizes. Everyone enjoyed their time together eating and talking, walking around, riding rides, and playing mini golf. Much appreciation to everyone who helped to plan this event, and thanks to everyone who attended.

The Merakey AVS team at Hummelstown PA celebrated the retirement of Carol Weezorak and her 46 years of service as a contracted physical therapist. Carol has been an integral part of the team in providing the best quality of life for those under our care. Her smiling face will be missed by staff and the individuals she serves, who have already expressed their sadness about her retirement. Happy Retirement, Carol!
