iHeartRadio Segment

On Sunday, August 2, Merakey AVS was featured on Pittsburgh's iHeartRadio during Jonny Hartwell's Public Affairs Program.

Senior Executive Director C/W ICF Roni Erath, Staff Development Executive Carol Erzen, Development & Community Engagement Manager Amy Rocini, and self-advocate Liz Humphrey joined the program to share the meaningful work happening at Merakey AVS.

From inspiring personal stories to the impact of our services, the conversation highlighted what it means to be part of the Merakey family and the greater Pittsburgh community. Thank you to Jonny Hartwell and iHeartRadio for the opportunity to spotlight the incredible work of our team and the voices of those we support.

Ladies at the Drive-in

Tess, Genny, and Liz had a blast watching Spider-Man: Brand New Day during their Ladies' Night at the drive-in under the stars.

Clearview on the Clipper

The ladies from Merakey Clearview had a ship-shape time cruising the three rivers of Pittsburgh aboard the Gateway Clipper Fleet.

Jonathan Goes to Kennywood

Jonathan from Wildwood had an incredible day at Kennywood. He went on exciting rides like Phantom's Revenge, Pittsburgh Plunge, Sky Rocket, and Swing Shot, and even rode his personal favorite, the Steel Curtain. He topped off his special day by meeting Kenny Kangaroo.

Keystone Safari

The ladies from Ewings Mill I had a wonderful outing to Keystone Safari. Everyone enjoyed feeding a giraffe, meeting animals up close during petting encounters, and learning fun facts along the way. Anna especially loved the giraffe's silly tongue, Linda's favorite was the deer, and Olive couldn't get enough of the baby goats. It was a day full of smiles and great memories.

Korey's Team Meets the Governor

Korey from Merakey’s Lehigh IDD program met Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro at the Governor’s Mansion with his special Olympics flag football team. It was a memorable experience for everyone on the team.

Brick House at Pirate Game

A group from the Pittsburgh Campus Brick House enjoyed a thrilling day cheering on the Pittsburgh Pirates from great seats at PNC Park. They especially loved sharing classic ballpark snacks during the game.

Erie Beach

Erie Beach has been a favorite destination this summer. Kacee from Barclay and Wendy, Cheyan, and Genny from Nolte had a blast exploring the beach, soaking up the sunshine, and enjoying some delicious local treats.

Beach Sandcruiser

Thanks to funds donated by the Walter F. and Ellen H. Nicoden Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation, Merakey was lucky to have access to a Sand Cruiser Beach Wheelchair. This special wheelchair can be used by people with disabilities so that others can easily push them on the beach. It was so incredible to be able to get the individuals on the beach and close to the water’s edge. After the beach, they enjoyed swimming in the pool at the hotel with others in the community.

Jennings Environmental Center

Jennings Environmental Center has become a popular place to visit for the individuals at the Slippery Rock Program Center. Program Instructor Cindy Solman took individuals from her area to visit the center and hike the trails. They enjoyed seeing all the beauty of nature and were excited to see a Monarch butterfly. The perfect weather allowed them to take a leisurely hike followed by a picnic lunch.
