This past July 4th, the staff from Merakey AVS at Verree Road in Philadelphia came together for a fun and relaxing celebration filled with good food, lots of laughter, and unforgettable moments. The event was kicked off with delicious barbecue that brought everyone to the patio. The hot grill, fun music, and smell of the burgers and hot dogs in the air set the perfect tone for Independence Day. Staff were thrilled to be joined by Executive Director Jen Uslenghi and Senior Residential Director Anthony Fluellen. It meant a lot to everyone to see leadership engaging with the individuals, celebrating the holiday, and having a good time alongside the rest of the team. All in all, it was a day full of smiles, connections, and appreciation.
Summer Flower Show
Janna, Teresa, and Wendy spent a delightful day at Phipps Conservatory, exploring the Summer Flower Show: Jungle Quest. The exhibit featured a vibrant mix of tropical plants, wild animal displays, and interactive elements. Teresa especially enjoyed triggering the elephant’s roar and a water spray from a hippo by waving her hand over a motion sensor. She also loved signing "zoo" and "elephant" in front of the display. Wendy admired the colorful blooms, engaged with the interactive features, and most of all, enjoyed the time spent with her friends. Janna explored the conservatory through touch, feeling the textures of various plants and learning the stories behind their unique names. One of the highlights for all three was visiting the butterfly room, where the butterflies fluttered close around.

They served hot dogs, hamburgers, smoked brisket, baked beans, meatball hoagies, taco salad, bacon ranch tortellini salad, and a delicious party punch. The group also celebrated Scott’s birthday, with everyone joining in to sing to him. The day was filled with fun and games, including cornhole, badminton, Jenga, basketball, checkers, and frisbee.
