Health and Wellness
Celebrating Individual Health and Wellness – The IDD Division has made a commitment this year to individuals and staff to support their overall well-being goals. There are seven dimensions of wellness in which Merakey provides different opportunities for individuals and staff to experience.
This month’s wellness activities and the impact felt by individuals are reflected in the photos. Stay tuned for next month’s photo.
SRPC Fun Day
Slippery Rock Program Center held its annual Fun Day on June 24. Individuals and staff chose an "Under the Sea" theme and had a great time decorating the areas. People participated in various games such as Shark Bite Beanbag toss, Pin the Tail on the Whale, Bop Bob with Water Balloons, and the always popular Dunk-a-Staff in the dunk tank. They also enjoyed making beach themed crafts like designing their own fish bowls and making a portable beach. Many were excited to meet and interact with the therapy dogs that were there. Everyone enjoyed a picnic cookout of hot dogs, macaroni salad, watermelon, and cupcakes. Of course, the Cotton Candy and Snow Cones were favorite treats. Everyone had a great day.
Mattress Factory Trip
A group from Patricia Hillman Miller Campus had a great time exploring the Mattress Factory Museum. Some favorite stops included Yayoi Kusama's Repetitive Dots and Infinity Dots Mirrored Room, along with James Turrell's amazing light installations. The group also really enjoyed Red Gold by Yasmine El Meleegy. It was a fun day of discovering new exhibits, sharing favorite pieces, and making artistic memories together.
Pittsburgh Game
Kregg, Kaler, James, Jonathan, and Keith enjoyed cheering on the Pittsburgh Pirates as they took on the Seattle Mariners, basking in the beautiful views aboard the Gateway Clipper, and exploring the colorful blooms at Phipps Conservatory.
July 4th at Verree Road
The staff and individuals at Verree Road in Philadelphia didn't let the weather put a damper on their Independence Day celebration, held on July 7. Everyone gathered to enjoy delicious food, fun games, and plenty of laughter, making it a day full of great memories and festive spirit.
Is it Really Fruit
Merakey programs in Schuylkill Mountain Center, PA hosted a “IS IT REALLY FRUIT?” challenge, a hands-on activity which brought out everyone’s competitive side.
All homes worked together to build fruit masterpieces of a monkey, SpongeBob’s Bikini Bottom, a BBQ, and an ode to pineapples.
The winner of the challenge was the Fourth Street Monkey Masterpiece.
Price Is Right Event
Come on down... you're the next contestant on The Price Is Right!
The individuals at Zapp and Kennedy had an amazing time at this year's Summer Celebration with The Price Is Right as the theme. From Contestants' Row to the Showcase Showdown, everyone got into the game-show spirit, "winning" big prizes, dream vacations, cash awards, and a brand-new car (well, almost).
It was a day full of laughter, friendly competition, and unforgettable memories. We think former game show host Bob Barker would have been proud.
Wave Pool
Tess, Janna, and Russell beat the summer heat with a visit to the Settlers Cabin Wave Pool.
