Frank's Card World

Slippery Rock Program Instructors took a small group of individuals to Frank's Card World in New Castle, PA. The group had a great time playing arcade games, air hockey, and shooting hoops. They also liked looking at all the trading cards for sale. A few tried their luck at golf simulation. It was a great way to spend the day.


Trip to Erie

Susie, Megan, and Freddie from the Oregon Road SFR went to Erie for a free educational pontoon tour of the bay. They learned about native wildlife and saw many animals, including an entire log full of turtles. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather and riding across the bay in the pontoon. The group agreed that Erie has been their favorite place to explore.


Let's Go Bucs

Matt and Louie from the Branchton Road SFR went on an outing to a Pittsburgh Pirates Game. They had a great time cheering for their favorite baseball team. Louie loved watching the Pirate Parrot and seeing the famous Pierogi Race. Matt thought it was cool when a player's bat broke and stuck straight in the ground between the catcher and pitcher. After the game, the guys went to Burger King for dinner. They both wanted to wear crowns so they could be kings. It was a great way to spend a Saturday.


Valley Falls State Park

Staff members Shyanne, Taelor, and Meranda took the guys from Windy Ghoul on an adventure to Valley Falls State Park in West Virginia to find one of the famous Almost Heaven Swings. The group enjoyed exploring the beautiful scenery, taking in the breathtaking views, and making great memories along the way.


Keystone Safari

The ladies from Nolte and Regina enjoyed a fun outing to Keystone Safari. They spent the day exploring, seeing a variety of animals up close, and even feeding a few creatures along the way.


Moraine State Park Picnic

Members of the Western Region Consumer Advocacy Groups met on Thursday, May 28, at McDanel's Launch at Moraine State Park for a group picnic. Everyone was excited to reconnect with old pals and make new friends. Beautiful weather allowed everyone to enjoy being outdoors, playing games, fishing, and just enjoying nature. The group also participated in making crafts. Cotton candy was the group’s favorite treat of the day.

Statue of Liberty

Lissette led a community outing for day program individuals to visit the Statue of Liberty. The group was excited to take the ferry and enjoy the scenic views of New York Harbor.

Upon arriving at Liberty Island, the individuals enjoyed exploring the grounds, learning about the history of the Statue of Liberty, and taking photos together. The outing provided a meaningful opportunity for community integration, socialization, and learning. The individuals had a great time and shared their excitement about the experience throughout the day. Thanks to Lissette's planning, leadership, and dedication, the trip was a memorable and successful experience for everyone involved.


Happy Birthday Pamela

Staff and Individuals at AVS/Verree Philadelphia Campus celebrated longtime resident Miss Pamela’s 69th birthday. The group decided to have a themed party featuring silly wigs. Everyone enjoyed themselves and Pamela felt truly celebrated.


Reading Phillies Game

Dennis from Merakey Schuylkill County enjoyed attending a Reading Phillies game. The outing was especially fun since Dennis received a baseball from one of the players, and he got to see a special fireworks display after the game.


Thank you Sherri

Sherri started at Merakey Allegheny Valley School as a Direct Support Professional at Main Campus. Over the years, she also worked at 850 Middletown Rd. and Grandview group homes. Sherri enjoyed being a DSP but really wanted to be a Program Instructor. She got the opportunity to transfer and excitedly accepted the position. She loves working one-on-one with the individuals. Sherri is fun-loving, kind and attentively listens to the individuals. We appreciate her tireless dedication and commitment to giving quality care to the people we serve.


Verree Road Outings

Individuals at AVS Verree Road have been enjoying the lovely spring weather by going out with their staff and peers for different activities. They went to an Antique Car Museum, an Autism Prom, and a bowling birthday party.


Living Treasures

The ladies from Oakhaven recently had a fantastic time visiting Living Treasures Animal Park and meeting some amazing animals.
