Miracle League Opening Day
Opening Day for the Miracle League of Moon Township kicked off on Saturday, May 10, and not even a rainy morning could dampen the excitement. The Merakey Miracles took the field alongside the Moon Township Football Team and a wonderful group of youth volunteers. By game time, the skies cleared, the music started, and the energy on the field was electric as each athlete was announced and made their way around the bases.
Athletes Bailey, Anna, Linda, Kelly, Billy O., Captain Morgan, and Ryan all participated with focus and even bigger enthusiasm. Midway through the game, Ryan gave his buddy a new nickname — Bob Barker — which quickly became a crowd favorite.
A special thank you goes out to Mike Magulick for announcing the lineup and to Dennis Magulick for supporting the football team with the event logistics. Their support helped make the day memorable for everyone involved.
Games will continue Saturdays at Moon Park from May 23 through June 19 at 11 a.m. Come out, cheer on the athletes, and be part of the fun.
Special Olympics Spring Invitational
The Special Olympics Allegheny County Spring Invitational at Baldwin High School was a huge success! Despite the rainy weather, the day was filled with teamwork, encouragement, and unforgettable memories.
A special thank you to everyone who worked behind the scenes, coordinating T-shirts, registrations, medical forms, transportation, roster updates, and so much more. Your attention to every detail made a lasting impact.
Special kudos to Carol Erzen for ensuring electrical wheelchairs stayed dry and for quickly helping pivot activities into the gymnasium. Your quick thinking and support truly made a difference.
We are also so grateful to the families who came out to cheer on and support our athletes through the chilly rain; your encouragement meant everything.
Great job, Pittsburgh Merakey AVS team!
CAG Groups to Phillies
Thanks to the generosity of the Phillies Foundation, individuals from our IDD programs across four counties in eastern PA were able to enjoy an evening full of fun, connection, and community at the May 5th Phillies game. What began as a meaningful conversation during a Consumer Advisory Group (CAG) meeting turned into a memorable experience for many individuals we serve.
This opportunity reflects the power of listening to the voices of the individuals we support and the positive impact that can come from advocacy, collaboration, and community partnerships. We are grateful to everyone who helped make this special night possible and to the Phillies Foundation for helping create such meaningful memories for our individuals and staff. If you are interested in learning more about CAG in your local area, please contact your Program Manager or contact us at QCOCAG@merakey.org.
