Green and White Game
Rob from the Grove City Road SFR met up with Matt from the Branchton SFR to attend Slippery Rock University's Green and White Game. Rob has been SRU's honorary football coach for many years. He was brought down to meet with the players and invited into the huddle. He gave the team a rousing speech urging them to "Bring Home a Title" this year. Matt also met the players. Both were able to watch the game from the sidelines. They had a great time cheering for their hometown heroes.
Book Signing
Individuals from Merakey AVS Verree Road in Philadelphia enjoyed a beautiful day out in the community with their staff and peers. The group attended a book signing with Brandon Graham from the Superbowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles. He talked to the group about his book and how to tackle life through both the good and the bad. It was an amazing day.
Windy Ghoul Heads Outdoors
The guys from Windy Ghoul home made the most of a beautiful day outdoors. With a picnic, some fishing, and time spent feeding the birds, it was the perfect way to relax and enjoy nature together.
Fruit Farm Trip
Individuals from Butler Community Living Arrangement and Sanderson enjoyed a sunny afternoon at White House Fruit Farm exploring and soaking up the fresh air.
Happy Birthday Cierra
Happy 30th Birthday, Cierra! Cierra kicked off her special day with gifts, explored the beautiful Mt. Washington, and enjoyed a delicious dinner with Program Manager Susan White.
Monster Truck Show
After two years of progress, Michael had the opportunity to successfully attend a large, crowded arena for a Monster Truck show. JS and Z took Michael to the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State University for a monster truck experience like no other. Michael has been watching and asking to see Monster Trucks for a long time and he finally made it to a live show. Michael was mesmerized by all the trucks, lights, and sounds. It was a successful and fulfilling outing for Michael.
Puppy Draft
It was a pup-tastic day in Pittsburgh as Woofles Pet Resort hosted their exciting Pup Draft at the AHN Montour Sports Complex. Woofles Ambassador Liz brought the energy in her referee shirt, helping lead an unforgettable event complete with a live DJ, great food, and the crowd-favorite Pup Draft. The highlight was when the dogs were “drafted” onto teams in a high-energy, show-stopping experience. The dogs strut down the red carpet, receiving custom team jerseys handcrafted by the talented Lisa Walker. The fun didn’t stop there. After the draft, the pups hit the field for Puppy Bowl-style games, showing off their skills in playful, interactive team activities.
Best Buddies Walk
Individuals took part in the Pittsburgh Best Buddies Walk on April 26 at Highmark Stadium, joining hundreds in support of inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. People supported by Merakey AVS and staff were proud to participate alongside the RMU Best Buddies Club.

Dave & Buster’s
The ladies from Galey had a blast at Dave & Buster’s. They spent the afternoon playing games, enjoying delicious food, and picking out awesome prizes.
Women’s Wellness Day
Several ladies in Western PA celebrated National Women’s Wellness Day in style. Wendy enjoyed a relaxing day with yoga, a soothing massage, and some shopping. The Oakhaven and Nolte ladies created personal encouragement jars. Each individual decorated their jar and filled it with uplifting notes, whether from themselves, family, or staff, filled with positive affirmations, quotes, and encouragement. It was the perfect way to brighten the ladies’ spirits.
Movie Screening
The individuals at Merakey AVS Philadelphia Campus enjoyed an evening watching a private screening of Michael, the recently released Michael Jackson movie. Everyone was dressed up in their favorite Micheal Jackson outfit. They also sung along to the songs in the movie. Everyone had a great time.
NFL Draft Event
In partnership with Presbyterian SeniorCare Network, Seniors Helping Seniors Pittsburgh Northeast hosted an event in celebration of Pittsburgh’s 2026 NFL Draft.
Dan Joseph, Myron Cope's biographer and Pittsburgh native, presented his upcoming 2024 biography Behind the Yoi, co-written with Myron’s daughter, Elizabeth. Dan shared memorable draft-day interviews, stories behind Myron’s creation of The Terrible Towel, and its lasting impact on fans and sports teams worldwide.
Merakey’s Liz Humphrey and Development & Community Engagement Manager Amy Rocini participated in the event, sharing info about Merakey AVS and The Terrible Towel. They even had the chance to meet Myron’s friend, "The Terrible Fan," and Jonny Hartwell, host of the 3WS Morning Show on iHeart Media.
It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with others who shared stories about Myron, the Steelers, and The Terrible Towel. A huge thank you to all of partners for raising funds to support Merakey Allegheny Valley School.
