Friends of the Riverfront

Wendy from Nolte home at Merakey AVS volunteered for Friends of the Riverfront with staff members Sam and Susan. The organization helps to build and maintain more than 33 miles of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail and Water Trail in Western PA.


Adventurous day in Pittsburgh

Liz and Janna from Oakhaven home recently had an adventurous day in Pittsburgh. They spent time at Dogland, enjoying the company of some adorable dogs, explored the Children’s Museum, and indulged in some delicious treats at Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop.


New Hire Group

The Western Pennsylvania Allegheny/Beaver residential program, Pittsburgh Campus residential, and PHMC residential and respiratory programs welcomed an enthusiastic new hire group. Not only were they excited to participate and learn about Merakey Allegheny Valley School, but they also added their own experiences to the discussions. They enjoyed their group lunches all week and connected with each other.

Holi Science Experiment

Individuals from the Rodi Road location in Pittsburgh enjoyed participating in a fun science experiment. They made colored powder to celebrate the India holiday Holi.


Penn Hills Day Program Outings

Individuals at the Penn Hills Day Program are excited that warmer weather is back. They recently spent some down time soaking up the sun at the local park.


Penn Hills Outing

Staff and individuals at the Penn Hills Day Program have been busy enjoying many adventures at Dave and Busters, Phipps Conservatory, and Zone 28.


Pizza and Rainbows

During a recent bout of cold weather, individuals at Slippery Rock Program Center stayed indoors and crafted. Some learned about rainbows and made a rainbow craft while others learned about pizza and made pizza crafts. They also made their own personal pizzas and enjoyed choosing their favorite toppings.


Kraynak’s Outing

Spring is just around the corner and to celebrate, several individuals from Slippery Rock Program Center went on Community Participation trips to see the Easter displays at Kraynak’s Lawn and Garden. They loved seeing all the creative displays and picked out their favorites. A few individuals also caught a glimpse of the Easter Bunny. Everyone had a great time on the trips.


Rooster’s Coffee Shop

Slippery Rock Program Aide Ashley Sutton took Emily to Rooster’s Coffee Shop for coffee. Emily enjoyed her mocha latte, talking with staff, and greeting other customers at the shop. She is a social butterfly who enjoys meeting people, so this was the perfect outing for her.


Special Needs Game Night

The individuals at Merakey AVS Philadelphia Campus had a blast at a Special Needs Game Night. The group enjoyed a night of playing different games such as bowling, ring toss, Connect Four, and many others with consumers in their community.
