Kathleen Huston

Senior Director of Merakey AVS’s School Community Living Program Kathleen Huston celebrated her 30th work anniversary on February 6, 2025. Kathleen began her career as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist at Merakey Woodhaven in Philadelphia where she developed long-lasting and respectful relationships with individuals and their families. She became a Clinical Coordinator and then a Unit Manager before ascending to her current position. As the Senior Director of the Merakey ICF Eastern Region Community Living Program, Kathleen oversees the operations of 14 community homes supporting 58 individuals. She is intimately involved in the day-to-day operations of her programs and works closely with her staff and individuals. Kathleen has always worked secondary jobs, including a stint as a Behavior Specialist and as a 988 crisis hotline counselor. Kathleen is married and enjoys time with her family, her pup Buster, and summer days at her home in Cape May. Kathleen’s daughter ended up volunteering at Merakey Woodhaven, which led her to go to school for nursing, and she now works as a PRN RN at Woodhaven. Kathleen, thank you for your years of service and congratulations on this milestone!


Night to Shine

On Friday, February 7, several individuals from the Slippery Rock Area dressed up in their finest to attend Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine Prom at North Way Christian Community Church in Sewickley, PA. A group of twenty women and men from Centreville Pike, Ewings Mill II, Malcolm, PHMC, Rt. 173, and Wildwood homes also gathered for the special event. They all enjoyed an unforgettable evening, complete with hair and nail treatments, a limousine ride, being crowned king and queen, and dancing the night away! Everyone was made to feel like a King or Queen as they donned glittering crowns. It was an enjoyable night of dancing and fun, and everyone loved receiving a swag bag at the end of the night. Many memories were made.


Legacy Fitness

On Wednesdays, several individuals from Slippery Rock Program Center attend Legacy Fitness in Butler, PA. Legacy Fitness provides specialized classes for people with IDD, and all abilities are welcome. Everyone has a great time getting some exercise and interacting with some new people.


Clearview Mall

A few individuals from Slippery Rock Program Center recently went shopping at Clearview Mall. London went to Steele’s Brushes in Butler, PA to make a pillow before meeting up with the others. They had a great time looking at the balloon displays.


Eagles Celebration

Staff and individuals at Merakey, located at 159 E. County Line Rd. in Hatboro, PA enjoyed an Eagles celebration in anticipation of them winning the Super Bowl!
