On June 3, friends and participants from Merakey’s Ash Street program came together for a birthday party! Doug celebrated his 72nd birthday in style with a delicious cake and an afternoon filled with smiles! He had a wonderful time seeing everyone and spending the day with his friends.

Happy Birthday, Doug!

Individuals from Merakey’s IDD residential programs in the Greensburg/Murrysville area celebrated Armed Forces Day and recognized Veterans with a day outdoors. Individuals participated in water games, aerobic drumming, creating-their-own stuffed animals, and dancing. It was a fun-filled day for all!

On Wednesday, June 7, Program Instructor Megan Kober from Slippery Rock Program Center took her area to Linesville Spillway. Everyone liked feeding the ducks and the carp around the Spillway. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch together! The group felt refreshed after spending the day in nature, and the abundant sunshine helped, too!

Merakey Program Instructors Mary Loos and Nikita Flowers taught lessons about hot air balloons in their areas in honor of Hot Air Balloon Day. They used the Promethean Board to share short videos that demonstrated how hot air balloons work. The group discussed what it would be like to ride in a hot air balloon, and what the sensation might feel like to be up in the sky with the birds. At the end of the discussion, the individuals got to make hot air balloon crafts to decorate their areas.
