Program participants Dan and Lynn from Regina home planted pots and raised beds on their deck on a beautiful sunny spring day. They planted vegetables and flowers and are eager to see what grows! They also enjoy relaxing on the new outdoor furniture.
Congratulations Special Olympics athletes! Thirty-four athletes from Western PA participated in the 2023 Special Olympics Pennsylvania Allegheny County Spring Invitational. Individuals Michael and Michael from Merakey AVS carried the torch during the opening ceremonies to get the day started. Although it was a rainy day, it didn’t keep the athletes from participating in indoor and outdoor games like walking, running, wheelchair races, mini javelin, shot put, softball throw, standing long jump, tennis ball throw, golf putting, and kick for distance. Many medals were won, and everyone had a great time connecting with friends from other local organizations.
Individuals and employees gathered in Central PA for an engaging workshop focused on Bouncing Back/Bringing Passion Back to Our Work. The session entitled Hope, Joy, and Passion presented by Guy Caruso and Al Condeluci, brought many together to share the everyday wins and challenges of the IDD world. This interactive day had participants connecting with each other and sharing strategies for staying engaged and motived with co-workers, peers, and those we serve.
On Wednesday, May 24, Program Instructor Nikita Flowers took her group for a picnic to Grove City Park. Everyone enjoyed feeding the geese, playing some hoops, and enjoying the peaceful setting. It was a wonderful day for everyone.
Lions, and tigers, and bears, oh, my! Participants Freddie and Susie had a special outing to Keystone Safari while other members of their program area played Miracle League baseball. Program Instructor Mary Loos thought it would be a nice way to give the ladies more personalized time. Everyone enjoyed seeing the animals on such a beautiful, sunny day!
Merakey participant Genny recently attended her very first concert and had a blast! Dawn, a staff member from Nolte home, joined Genny to see Lizzo in concert in Pittsburgh, and they both had a wonderful time.
