Merakey AVS Kicked Off Baseball Season with Two Grand Slams

On April 15, the Miracle League Baseball season began with the Millratta Brodhavens and the Wild & Clear Colmers representing seven Merakey homes in Western PA. Merakey AVS athletes took turns at bat and circling the bases while being cheered-on by their accompanying staff and others from the community. The league commentator led them through two fun-filled innings with a musical finish of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

Congratulations to Kregg, a Wildwood star athlete, who earned his team a whopping eight points with two grand slams. Both teams brought their A game! The games are scheduled on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 11 a.m. at the Moon Miracle League Field.

A huge shout out to the Moon High School football team for signing up to volunteer at each of the weekend games. We look forward to seeing them again each week.

Everyone celebrated Earth Day at Slippery Rock Program Center by planting seeds for the Sensory Garden. Some of the individuals tried their hands at weeding while others painted the planters.

The gentlemen from Great Oaks home have been loving the beautiful spring weather! It’s wonderful to get outside in the fresh air this time of year.

It was a girls’ day for Lizzie, Kathy, and Sarah from Patricia Hillman Miller Campus as they visited the Carnegie Museum of Art. The group had a great time checking out all the exhibits.

Zoe Rhoades, a Program Aide at Slippery Rock Program Center, taught a class about the life cycle of a butterfly. She created a PowerPoint presentation that included short videos using the Promethean Board. Zoe also used enlarged models of an egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly to allow for hands-on learning. The area is raising caterpillars to watch the life cycle of a butterfly in real time. Everyone was engaged in the lesson, and they especially loved seeing the caterpillars!

Patricia Hillman Miller Campus welcomed a new four-legged friend this week for Pet Therapy. Everyone was all smiles, including Karen who is pictured here with Therapy Pet, Miss Violet.
