Bradford, Megan, Samuel, and Gary attended a virtual Pre-Passover Celebration hosted by The Friendship Circle and the “Branch” in care of the JOY outreach. Participants watched a video from the Rabbi explaining the Passover celebration, the Escape from Egypt, and reasons to celebrate with a Seder as it creates or means order. Traditions including Matza and opportunities to “spread their wings” symbolize the escape from Egypt. The group also played games, decorated a Seder Plate and wished each other a Happy Passover at the end.

Spring is in the air at Merakey AVS’ Slippery Rock Program Center. Now that the weather is warmer, everyone is eager to go outside and enjoy their Sensory Garden. Program Instructor Bob Graziani led a work crew of individuals and staff to do some maintenance work in order to reopen the garden. Other folks took time to enjoy the beautiful day and play.

Who needs dinner theater when you have lunch theater at Merakey AVS on Verree Road in Philadelphia? Thomas Alberici, a Music Professor at the Berman Music Institute in Haverford, PA was invited to the program to meet with and play for individuals we serve. During his visit, he played the piano and provided music therapy to the individuals while they enjoyed lunch. Merakey AVS’ grand piano was used to play a variety of classical and calming music, including Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Bach.

Thomas’ music helped to heighten the meal and left the individuals calm and tranquil. Lots of smiles from both the individuals and staff were also displayed throughout the experience. Special thanks to Thomas Alberici for his visit and music therapy.
