On March 27, MariGold, Horticultural Therapy visited the Merakey AVS Campus on Verree Road in Philadelphia for a day of grins and greenery! Horticultural Therapy is a subgroup of Occupational Therapy with wide-ranging benefits that include promoting cognitive development, reducing anxiety, forming positive relationships, and improving physical endurance. Participating individuals experienced visual, olfactory, auditory, proprioceptive, vestibular, and tactile sensations through an assortment of plant-based activities. The whole group enjoyed the lovely spring weather while experiencing a sensory-stimulating environment. With materials selected for color, fragrance, and texture, the Verree Road individuals worked on a sensory garden space that promises to offer a bounty of herbs, vegetables, and edible flowers in the future.
