Merakey resident Liz is moving into a new place! Liz’s housemates and staff members threw her a going away party to celebrate. She’ll be moving to a new home within Merakey AVS. The party included beautiful decorations and a Harry Potter cake – Liz’s favorite!



Merakey’s Patricia Hillman Miller Campus in Pittsburgh celebrated Black History Month with a fun and informative potluck luncheon. Staff were asked to bring in special foods from their different cultures and backgrounds, and to share stories and traditions with each other. It was a lovely event!
A team from Merakey AVS braced themselves against the cold for a good cause and participated in the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Pennsylvania on February 25. Hundreds of participants jumped into ice cold pools at Acrisure Stadium as part of the Pittsburgh Polar Plunge. This year’s event raised more than $400,000 for Special Olympics athletes in the state. The team was full of chilly cheer from their philanthropic efforts!


It may look like a spaceship landed beside Route 8 near Slippery Rock, but it is really a store called Playthings Etc. Playthings Etc. sells toys for people of all ages. Even better, people who visit the store are encouraged to try out the various items they sell. On Wednesday, March 3 individuals and staff from the Slippery Rock Program Center at Merakey AVS visited the unique store. The individuals tried out scooters, played different musical instruments, and touched and felt various sensory items. The Playthings Etc. staff were incredibly friendly and helped everyone to make informed choices about their purchases. It was a fun field trip for all!
The ladies from Galey home had a blast at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh.
