On Valentine's Day, love was in the air along with the sweet scent of homemade chocolate chip cookie cake at Slippery Rock Program Center. Many individuals made Valentines to give to someone, while others baked and decorated personalized heart shaped cookie cakes for their Valentine’s Day party. Games, such as Valentine's Day trivia and heart toss were played. Everyone loved and enjoyed the festivities.

Kevin from Great Oaks home visits his local library often and picks out a few books to take home. He loves to cook and bake, so his favorite books to check-out are cookbooks. He carefully reviews each of the recipes and selects a few that look good each month to try out. Pictured: A chicken dish that Kevin and Great Oaks staff Trina are preparing for the house.

After nearly three years, administrators and managers hopped off Zoom and recently attended a highly anticipated in-person House Manager meeting! Like all House Manager meetings, there were topics that included best practices. The topic of that day was about appropriately following feeding profiles and medication passes. Special guests from AMI Expeditionary Healthcare provided a course on disinfection, cleaning and hand hygiene, including a GloGerm exercise.

Stacey Speer, Western PA Administrator, recognized February’s employee anniversaries, ranging from 9 to 43 years of service! Senior Regional Executive Director Roni Erath shared good news about the increase in new hires over the last three months, as well as Merakey’s deeper focus on employee retention and satisfaction.

Finally, news about an extension of National Caregiver Appreciation Day on February 17 was shared with the group. CentiMark Corporation has once again made it possible to hold a daily raffle from February 27 – March 3 for frontline staff and managers in residential, program and medical departments! In Merakey AVS’s Western Region. The raffles are just another way to say thank you to the staff for all they have done and continue to do in making sure the individuals are healthy, safe, and well cared for!
