Team Merakey proudly participated in the Autism Speaks Greater Philadelphia Empower Walk & 5K Run on November 2. This inspiring event brought together families, advocates, and organizations to promote inclusion and raise awareness for autism. The Empower Walk & 5K Run is more than just a fundraiser – it’s a celebration of community and progress. With activities like the Superhero Sprint, Friendship Bracelet Station, and a vibrant Resource Fair, the event offered something for everyone. Merakey’s presence was felt throughout the day, as team members engaged with attendees, shared valuable resources, and strengthened community connections.

Cynthia Irizarry, Regional Director of Intensive Behavioral Health Services for Southeastern Pennsylvania, reflected on the impact:

“The event provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community—many attendees stopped by to learn more about our services and supports for individuals and families affected by autism. We also provided recruitment information, which generated strong interest from participants seeking employment opportunities.”

Sarah Reimers, Program Director of Student Assistance Program, added:

“It was a beautiful morning; there was so much positivity and a great sense of community. Plenty of people came up to the table and said they were receiving services with Merakey or had in the past. Cynthia did a wonderful job speaking to people about the various career opportunities at Merakey as well!”
Jeff Bender, Warrington Education Program Director, and BCBA Jonathan Spector were also on hand to share insights about Merakey’s Warrington education program. Jeff noted that their outreach—and the ever-popular Merakey stress balls—were a big hit with attendees.

Merakey’s participation in the Empower Walk & 5K Run exemplifies its commitment to supporting individuals with autism and their families. Through meaningful conversations, resource sharing, and community engagement, the team helped advance the mission of creating a more inclusive world.
