The Allegheny Center site located in Penn Hills, PA held its first ever Safety and Wellness Fair last month. The event featured Walmart Pharmacy administering annual flu shots, Guardian Protection provided information about home security, and Department of Human Services Overdose Prevention handed out Narcan kits. A CPR demonstration was conducted by Foxwall EMS and UPMC Mercy Hospital shared information on “Stop the Bleed” and “Learn not to burn.” Attendees were treated to kickboxing demonstrations by Merakey staff member Sarah Lozier. Other vendors at the fair included Allegheny Health Network (AHN), Damsel in Defense, PSECU, Suicide Prevention Awareness, Farmasi, Allegheny County SWAT, and Penn Hills EMS. Merakey’s Nursing Home Transition and Diversion team set up a hydration station, which was a welcome relief from the unusually hot day in October!
Attendees also participated in a scavenger hunt that involved the vendors and the winners were awarded baskets filled with goodies donated by Merakey employees. Special thanks to the Adult Day Program for providing and grilling up the delicious food for the day. The fair was an incredible success and Merakey is grateful for the efforts of all those involved!
