Program Director Sarah Reimers joined the Bucks-Mont Collaborative for their Day of Advocacy at PA's State Capitol in Harrisburg. Non-profits in Montgomery and Bucks Counties met with legislators to advocate for an increase in mental health funding to Counties, how to address the workforce crisis in human services, explore ways to support homelessness prevention, and to support Bill HB1095 which would limit access to eviction records.
The group met with State Representative, Steven Malagari, who supports Merakey's values and services in the North Penn area of Montgomery County. A Merakey client joined sessions and shared her story of how community-based services supported her through the behavioral health system and she successfully obtained low-income, sustainable, housing. Her story reminded legislators of the power of storytelling, so people don't just become numbers or statistics!
