Meet Taniyah, an 11-year old girl who is described as smart, funny, helpful, friendly, and strong. Making the honor roll several times and being named student of the month on four occasions while in elementary school shows Taniyah’s intelligence and ambition. She was also a member of the school choir, the dance team and the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Program. While on the dance team, Taniyah was selected to be part of an exclusive group of dancers to participate in a ballroom dance competition with schools from across Pennsylvania.

By all accounts, it appeared that Taniyah was a happy little girl without a care in the world. Those who knew her well, however, could see that she was feeling a sense of helplessness whenever she became upset or frustrated. There were times when she stopped listening to others and completely shut down. Nearly four years ago, Taniyah was referred to the Children’s Case Management program at Merakey in Delaware County, PA to find support and to learn the tools she needed to overcome her feelings of despair.

Through hard work and perseverance, Taniyah has met all her program goals and can better manage those negative feelings and behaviors. The Case Management Team at Merakey in Delaware County is so very proud of Taniyah and all her accomplishments. They know that she will continue to use the tools she learned as she grows up and that she will be successful, no matter what she decides to do in life.
