This week, United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania brought together more than 150 volunteers to build bikes for kids in Pennsylvania counties of Allegheny, Westmoreland, Fayette, Butler and Armstrong! Merakey is grateful to receive 10 bikes to distribute to youth in its Westmoreland County programs.

United Way’s Build-A-Bike teaches children the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and provides active alternatives for the summer. For many kids, this will mark the first time they have ever owned, or even ridden, a bike – giving them a chance to explore, foster curiosity and get back to a #SummerOfPlay. For the Westmoreland effort, 50 volunteers from Live! Casino Pittsburgh, Kennametal Inc., UPS, Hefren-Tillotson, and West Penn Power built bikes.

We are grateful to United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania and its corporate volunteers and partners from across the region!

In addition to the organizations listed above, the following supported the effort in other counties: MSA Safety, XTO Energy, Butler County Community College, UPMC, KeyBank, Eat'n Park Hospitality Group, Enterprise, Williams, University of Pittsburgh, Koppers, Federated Hermes, Inc., and PPG Industries, Inc.
