We learned last week that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has finalized a rule that will allow social-service providers who receive government funds to withhold services based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Reports state that the new rule could have wide-ranging implications for agencies that support adoption, foster care, HIV prevention, elder care, and other social services. The rule is slated to take effect on February 11, 2021.
When we read the news, we knew it was important to say, once again, and unequivocally: we will never turn clients away on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Our doors will always remain open to the LGBTQIA+ community and we will continue to work every day to assure that Merakey is a place where we all thrive not in spite of our differences, but because of our differences.
