We can’t say it often enough: Merakey is a place for everyone. We firmly believe that our diversity is our greatest strength.
This morning, we became aware of a new state regulatory board decision to remove protections for LGBTQ clients and clients with disabilities who seek social work services in Texas. According to reporting in the Texas Tribune, the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners has changed its code of conduct to no longer prohibit social workers from turning away clients on the basis of disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
We are deeply saddened by this news and want to make it abundantly clear: we will never turn clients away on the basis of disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity in Texas or anywhere else that we work.
We will continue to work every day to assure that Merakey is a place where we all thrive, not in spite of our differences, but because of our differences.
