Although COVID-19 has altered the way services are provided by the Stepping Stones Plus program in McMurray, PA, the leadership team and staff have adapted their group program to continue to fit the needs of their participants.

One participant in particular, Evan, continues to socially thrive, due in large part to the continued efforts of his staff, by attending three sessions a week for group ABA therapy. Evan has consistently attended his sessions every week, since the telehealth services were implemented in April. His mom, Amy, states,

“What we needed was someone outside of the family, during this time, to engage in a structured social conversation. Answering questions, taking turns, waiting to speak, talking about non- preferred topics – these are all difficult challenges for Evan. For two hours, he talks with others, not always about what he wants to discuss, but he does interact with his peers. I know the time that it took to create these sessions. Coming up with new games and topics every 15-20 minutes and finding tools that would work only on a computer in a group setting must have been very difficult. Thank you (staff) for your efforts to continue group sessions!”

The staff at Stepping Stones Plus could not be more proud of the continued efforts and dedication that not only Evan, but his family shows each week by making his attendance in his Stepping Stones Plus group sessions a priority. Way to go, Evan!
