Jodi Savits, Director of the Merakey Fresh Start Veterans Programs in Coatesville, PA celebrated an extraordinary milestone on October 14 - 20 years of long-term recovery from drugs and alcohol.

Before she became sober, Jodi spent 23 years struggling with substance use. Her life spiraled out of control, resulting in homelessness and committing crimes to support her substance use. On October 13, 2000, Jodi hit rock bottom and ended up in the hospital. After she was released from the hospital, she sought help and went to a recovery house. Eventually, with a great deal of hard work, therapy and support, Jodi overcame her addictions and ended up going back to the same recovery house to work part-time.

During the last 20 years, Jodi has achieved many successes, both personally and professionally. She has reestablished healthy relationships with loved ones and was able to be there to support her family and friends when they needed her. She went back to school to earn her bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She continues to participate in recovery group efforts and won the 2017 Voice Award from the United States Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. She is a fierce advocate and role model for the Veterans she works with and is a valued member of the Fresh Start Management Team.

Through all her successes, Jodi is most proud of being a Grandmother (or Gijo) to her grandchildren. She is thrilled to be able to be there for them 100% in body, mind and spirt.

The entire team at Merakey Fresh Start congratulates Jodi on her 20th Anniversary and they look forward to watching her continue to be successful in the future.
